Welcome to the MA Adriatic Studies online application system. Before applying, please read carefully the following:
Start your application To start your application select Apply now at the top right of the page. This will guide you to the online application portal. Tip: Make sure you enter your details as they appear on your passport or legal documents. Important: Provide a valid email address in the application form, as all communication regarding your application will be sent to this email.
Before you complete your application Academic requirements: The MA Adriatic Studies program accepts graduates of Humanities, Social, Political and Legal Sciences holding a first and/or second-cycle degree from Higher Education Institutions from Greece, Europe and overseas. All qualifications must be awarded by recognized bodies. Applicants are generally expected to follow a pathway relevant to the MA Adriatic Studies program; however, we also welcome non-standard applications if they demonstrate a clear connection to the program’s themes and objectives. Non-standard applications will be assessed by the members of the Applicant Evaluation Committee of the MA Adriatic Studies on a case-by-case basis. Although applicants are normally expected to have good higher education qualifications, no minimum degree grade is required for admission to the MA.
Language requirements: If English is not your first language, you must meet the requirements for a certified C1 proficiency level. If applicants hold a B2 level language proficiency certificate, their English language competency will be assessed during the personal interview. Application process – Document requirements Applicants should complete the online application form, uploading all documents directly. Applications will not be considered until all required documents have been uploaded. All documents are required (not optional) All documents must: – Include the file extension appropriate to its format – Not be password protected – Not contain macros. – For any questions about the treatment of your data, please refer to the Ionian University privacy policy statement https://ionio.gr/en/about/gdpr/ 3.1. Official identification document Provide scan of an official identification document, preferably identity card or passport. 3.2. Curriculum vitae The MA Adriatic Studies does not follow or provide a specific template for applicants’ CVs. However, it expects the CV to include the following information: studies, published scientific work (if any), participation in scientific conferences (if any), professional experience (if any) and general qualifications. 3.3. Academic Transcript(s) Official records showing individual grades for all university-level completed qualifications. Provide scans of university degree certificate(s) and final transcripts confirming completion. Where applicable, include recognition of your academic record by the competent institutional authorities in your country of origin. In exceptional circumstances, an official letter from your university confirming completion of your award and final grade may be accepted in place of a certificate. The MA Adriatic Studies reserves the right to verify the provided academic qualifications either electronically during the application process or in person. 3.4. English Language Proficiency Certificate Required if English is not your native language. 3.5. Two references (preferably academic) References should be submitted electronically by the applicant. References must be written, signed and dated on official headed paper from the referee’s organization. They must include the referee’s full contact details, i.e. postal address, telephone number and organization email address. At least one referee should be familiar with the applicant’s academic work. 3.6. Research proposal (1000-1500 words) Research proposals are evaluated for their originality and bibliographic depth by the program’s Applicant Εvaluation Committee and play a significant role in the final selection of applicants. Research proposals will need to identify: – The research questions or problems the applicant intends to address – The research context for the applicant’s project of work – The methods the applicant will use to pursue his/her key questions. – A bibliography relevant to the proposed research. 3.7. Other documentation – Extenuating circumstances Applicants can upload additional documents beyond the required ones for the application submission, e.g. evidence of professional or research experience, or any relevant documentation providing context for interruptions or challenges encountered during their education. Submit your application Once all documents are successfully uploaded, click on the “submit” button. You will receive an automatic response at the email address you provided, confirming that your application has been successfully submitted. Once an application is successfully submitted, all information and copies of documents will become the official property of the Ionian University.

Selection Process
1. Assessment of applications To be eligible for consideration, applications must be submitted with all required documentation. Specific document requirements can be found at section 3. Application process – Document requirements (see above, How to Apply. Applications are considered by two members of the appropriate admissions team who consider the completed application form. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed through the selection process.
2.Interview All eligible applicants are invited to a personal interview. Interviews are part of the selection process. Applicants invited for an interview will be contacted by email to make arrangements. The interview is conducted remotely and is assessed by the members of the Applicant. Evaluation Committee of the MA Adriatic Studies. During the interview, applicants are expected to explain their reasons for choosing this specific program and present their research interests within the relevant field. The Applicant Evaluation Committee assesses candidates based on the following criteria: -Oral statement -Performance in the undergraduate degree -References -Research project -Sample of work (if any).
3.Decisions The maximum number of students that will be accepted to the MA Adriatic Studies is thirty (30). The following criteria are taken into account for the selection of students to the MA Adriatic Studies: – 40% of the evaluation of the candidate’s Research Project (on a scale of 10 on a scale of 1 to 10). – 40% of the evaluation of the candidate during the interview (on a scale of 10 on a scale of 1 to 10). – 20% of the evaluation of the candidate’s undergraduate performance, published scientific work, participation in scientific conferences or/and professional experience.
RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT JULY 20-25, 2025
Applicants will be notified by email when a decision has been made whether their application has been accepted or rejected. The list of successful candidates will also be posted on the website of the MA Adriatic Studies, using their application submission protocol number for reference. Successful candidates will be notified to register for the MA Adriatic Studies within a specified period of time. Candidates who fail to register within the prescribed period will lose the right to enroll in the MA Adriatic Studies, unless they apply to the Assembly of the Department of History of the Ionian University on the grounds of serious illness or force majeure, which they will prove with the relevant documents. In this case the Applicant Evaluation Committee will examine the reasons and decide accordingly. The justification for the acceptance or rejection of an application is at the discretion of the Applicant Evaluation Committee of the MA Adriatic Studies.
4.Appeal An appeal against the selection outcome may be lodged within ten days of the applicant’s notification. The appeal will be reviewed by the Steering Committee of the MA in Adriatic Studies, which will assess whether the selection regulations have been duly followed and whether all submitted applicant materials have been properly considered. The decision of the Steering Committee will be issued within five days after the appeal deadline.
